A topic that might be of interest for a future meeting is Bhutan. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhutan
The country is the only one in Asia that has never been colonized, only transitioned into constitutional monarchy a decade ago, and had a quite isolationist policies over the past century,
It might be an interesting and self contained case study of alternative social development where European empire building are not the principal force. It is interesting to note that they had, anyway, the typical struggles of humankind: civil wars (around 1860), having to unify the country, expelling people to preserve “national identity” (around 1960 to 1990: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhutanese_refugees).
It has also many interesting quirks, something that called my attention was fact they’ve only allowed TV and internet in 1999: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-25314578
